Our last resort stop at number #13 gave you a taste of the elitism of St. Barts and the exclusive Eden Rock Resort. Now we remain in the Caribbean as we visit the southern shores of the Domenican Republic, where the outstanding Casa de Campo Resort & Villas scores #12 on our list. The only resort in the D. Republic to make our countdown last year.

When many people think of the Domenican Republic they think of Punta Cana, the main tourism zone of the island with the Cap Cana and Bavaro beach areas lined with all inclusive resorts of different class levels going for miles down the beaches one after the other. I've sent plenty of clientele to Punta Cana over my career. However this is not where the best resort on the entire island is even found. The Casa de Campo is found in the La Romana region of the island on the southern shores. I honestly consider the Casa de Campo a community resort, as its grounds are so large and spread out on so much coastal land it can overwhelm clients to consider how to handle this resort. Relax, I can assist with that. Mainly guests will stay at the resort itself and can decide between the different room types and configurations available at the resort. With the resort you have the main beachfront and Minitas Beach Club, several main pools and most of the dining venues. So see it's not that difficult. I think people see how big the grounds are and worry how to get around from one part to the other. The only clients that need to think about this is mainly the villa renters.
The Villas are absolutely stunning, and spread out on the grounds of the Casa de Campo in different locations, and every single villa is stunningly unique in its style, layout and design, no two are alike! If you are staying in a villa, then getting around to the shops, golf course, beach club, main resort, dining venues becomes a little more of an issue, but even then relax the resort includes golf carts for your villa stay.
Most of the coastline of the Casa de Campo is rocky, so it is not that the resort has wonderful long walkable beaches, as it does not. The main beach area is around the Minitas Beach & Beach Club. This is a beautiful soft white sand beach, with gentle calm waters due to the off shore reef. This makes the resort very popular with families, as well the resort is a great experience and family friendly. During the pandemic when luxury clients looked to getaway and wanted lots of space and privacy, Casa de Campo fit the bill perfectly. With its incredible villas that give guests access to all the resort has to offer, it was very appealing to rent a family villa, yet have that access to dining venues, a beach, activities. It absolutely helped that the Domenican Rupublic was not requiring advanced testing to come down to the island and enjoy.
As for the main resort even your entry level rooms will come with free use of a 4pax golf cart, so riding around the resort becomes a fun & easy experience to reach wherever you are looking to go on the resort grounds. The resort offers many activities such as horse back riding, polo, golf, shooting, water sports and use of all non motorized water activity gear for guests. Beach escapes are always more invigorating through play. With white-sand beaches and clear, blue waters that surround La Romana, but at Casa de Campo, there are even more places for games. The 63 holes of golf designed by Pete Dye challenge you; 13 tennis courts, three polo playing fields, and a comprehensive 245-acre shooting facility await. But this legendary resort offers more than great sports; expect gorgeous rooms, private villas, and amenities such as dazzling pools, exclusive Minitas Beach, award-winning restaurants, a well-appointed spa, a full-service marina, and the native history and culture of Altos de Chavón artists’ village.
Accommodations at the resort are of three types only. You have the Superior Casitas, the Elite Rooms or the Elite Suites. Superiors can sleep family of 4, whereas the Elite Rooms or Suites can sleep 6. Superior Rooms are approx 538 sq ft and are considered tropical view rooms. The Elite Rooms vary between 600-730 sq feet & can be on first or second floor and also have tropical views. The Elite Suites are much larger averging between 1300-1900 sq ft with tropical views, but also come with a 6pax golf cart.....makes sense being you can sleep 6 in a Elite Suite. Suites also include a nice living area and dining area, as well as a double patio or terrace. From there you go right into a villa search to find the perfect villa for larger families or guests who want the exclusivity of a private villa. Some villas are oceanfront, while others will be back on the resort grounds elsewhere in private garden settings.

All with completely different cusines and special menus. Going to Casa de Campo for a week you can try a new spot every night just about. As well lets not forget that room service or villa service are options. The resort usually has two food trucks that are also part of the dining options on property.
