Every October, I have the same conversation with my savviest clients. Not "where should we go next year" — but "what should we already be booking." Because in luxury travel, the calendar that matters isn't the one on your wall. It's the booking window. And for the best trips of 2027, that window is open right now.
Here are the five trips I'd lock in before the ball drops.
1. Japan in Cherry Blossom Season
Late March through April in Japan is the single most demand-outstrips-supply season I work with. Kyoto's temples under full bloom, Tokyo's parks at peak pink — and a country with limited luxury hotel inventory absorbing enormous global demand.
My Japan clients book 9 to 12 months out. That means right now. The best ryokans, the best guides, the best tables — they're going now, not in February. If Japan 2027 is on your list, this is the one that can't wait.
2. Alaska by Small Ship, Summer 2027
Alaska's cruise season is short — roughly May through September — and the ships worth sailing (small, expedition-style, with naturalists instead of water slides) have limited berths. Glacier Bay permits are capped, which means the best itineraries physically cannot add capacity.
Wave season deals will come in January, but the prime suites and sought-after departure dates go to early bookers. If you've been meaning to do Alaska properly, 2027 inventory is live and moving.

3. The Mediterranean Next Summer
Greece, Croatia, the Amalfi Coast — the Mediterranean summer of 2027 is already taking shape in my books. The finest small-ship cruises, the best-positioned villas, the cliffside suites with the views you see in magazines: they reward the early.
My Italy Desk spends every summer placing clients across the Med, and the pattern never changes — June and September (the sweet spots: warm seas, thinner crowds) book first. July and August follow. If you want a specific property or a specific week, now is the time.
4. Festive Season 2027
Yes, already. The Christmas and New Year's trips for 2027 — the overwater villas, the safari lodges, the private Caribbean estates — are being quietly reserved right now by travelers who learned the lesson last year. Festive inventory is the most perishable in all of travel: two weeks, fixed dates, no flexibility.
Booking festive 2027 in October 2026 sounds aggressive. It's actually just prudent. Ask anyone who tried in March.
5. The Trip You've Been Postponing
Everyone has one — the safari, the Galápagos expedition, the around-the-world fragment, the anniversary blowout. The trip that keeps sliding a year. Here's what 25+ years of planning has taught me: the trips that happen are the trips that get a date on the calendar and a deposit down.
Why Early Wins
It's not just availability. Early booking means better cabin selection on cruises, better rates before seasonal increases, more time to craft the details that separate a good trip from an unforgettable one — the private guide on the right day, the table that's impossible in high season, the room with the view.
The travelers who plan furthest ahead aren't the most anxious. They're the most experienced. They know the secret: the best trips are built slowly, and they start now.
