Level 4 - US Worldwide Travel Advisory - Dropped

· Travel News

Good Friday, and some good news.

Yesterday afternoon the US Dept of State officially withdrew it's worldwide Level 4 Travel Advisory. Instead informing that each country will be individually level rated, and some countries did remain Level 4.

The Depart. of State press release:

“With health and safety conditions improving in some countries and potentially deteriorating in others, the Department is returning to our previous system of country-specific levels of travel advice (with Levels from 1-4 depending on country-specific conditions), in order to give travelers detailed and actionable information to make informed travel decisions. This will also provide U.S. citizens more detailed information about the current status in each country. We continue to recommend U.S. citizens exercise caution when traveling abroad due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic."

What does this mean? Well it basically means the US Government is telling us the public go ahead and start traveling internationally again, and that they are no longer 'advising' US Citizens not to travel internationally worldwide. In reality a Level 4 Advisory is not a ban, and US Citizens were actually never banned from international travel at all. Instead countries either prohibited international entry completely or nation specific entry bans by that country not by the DOS. So even though we could fly anywhere we wanted (if we could get there), we were and remain limited to where can we really go?

Who remained Level 4?

Even Level 4 countries can be traveled to, nothing is stopping you from going to them unless they are closed off to us by that countries government. For example take a look at this list, Mexico is on it. You can get on a flight and go to Mexico, and have been able to for several months now. I could do it today if I wanted to, and just had client return weeks ago from Cabo without any issues what so ever.

This is by no means a list of countries that have a ban on US Citizens Entry.

I do think the DOS dropping many countries from level 4, may see some reciprocal action by some governments to withdraw their ban on us slowly, but be surprised if this has any immediate effect on those bans. In my opinion I do not feel some countries should really be level 4 anyways, and find it hard to justify why they are on the list. Such as Bahamas, Belize, Costa Rica. Dominican Republic, Mexico & China. While others on this list are on it & have been on it due to non-COVID reasons, violenice, unrest, terrisom, etc, etc..

It's not a COVID list, it's a Level 4 list.

To wrap this up, along with the week, a summary of where can us American's currently go, that is open to us?
